Friday 28th July, 2006 – GALA DINNER

The gala dinner will take place on Friday 28th July at Villa Bighi. The land on which the villa is built once belonged to Fra Giovanni Bichi who was the nephew of Pope Alexander VII.  Fra Bichi was in the naval service of the order and eventually gained command of the Papal fleet.  However, he did not survive to see the villa finished as he died of plague. In 1827 Lord Nelson suggested that it be used as a hospital during the battle of Navarino, and of course King George IV gave his permission.

The dinner will take place in the garden of this beautiful villa, a part of Kalkara creek which overlooks the historical Grand Harbour and stands testimony to the 1565 Great Siege.
